Who says women?s soccer isn?t popular? Breaks Twitter?s tweets per second record!
Women?s soccer/football sealed a brand new tweets per second record today during the Women?s soccer world cup final.
In fact, as you?ll see from Twitter?s own tweet below, the top two most tweeted records now belong to women?s soccer with an incredible 7196 tweets per second and 7166 tweet/second for first and second spot respectively.
The previous record for the number of tweets per second is 6,939, set at 4 seconds after midnight in Japan on New Year?s Day.
While it might be nice to think this is due to a sudden surge in women?s soccer?s popularity, the fact of the matter is that the women?s final included two of Twitter?s most popular countries battling it out ? Japan and USA. With that in mind, this seems a little less surprising. Had this been a final between Poland and USA, I doubt we?d be seeing a new record set.
