HTC to launch Flyer tablet in March, two more in June
The first tablet will run Android 2.3 (codenamed Gingerbread), but users will be able to upgrade to Android 3.0 (codenamed Honeycomb) whenever the new OS is available. The second and third HTC tablets, expected to launch in June, will be running Honeycomb. HTC will launch the Flyer tablets in cooperation with a telecom carrier, which has yet to be named.
HTC is pushing to get the Flyer out with Gingerbread and not Honeycomb because it wants to get some sales ahead the planned launch of the Motorola Xoom, which will be the first tablet to ship with Honeycomb. That being said, RIM plans to ship 1 million BlackBerry PlayBooks in Q1 2011, so HTC will have to worry about more than just Motorola.
